Next on my list of 100 peaks in San Diego is Stanley Peak at Daley Ranch, a true natural gem and the largest in Escondido County. The quickest route to the peak is just under four miles round-trip, making for a relatively short and manageable hike, but with the stunning scenery along the way, I decided to add a few extra miles and soak it all in. The trail offers sweeping views and a peaceful atmosphere, especially on weekdays when you’ll likely have the place to yourself. However, if you decide to visit on the weekend, be prepared to compete for parking as this beautiful spot can get crowded quickly.

To route to the peak (and back)

Daley Ranch features a network of over 15 miles of single-track trails that wind through scenic lakes and meadows. Starting from the parking lot, I followed the Creek Crossing Trail, which then connected to the Sage Trail, taking me along the majority of the route. The trail skirts the park's boundary, eventually leading to the Stanley Peak Trail. This out-and-back trail takes you all the way to the peak, where you'll be rewarded with a 360-degree panoramic view. I spent about 20 minutes at the top, resting and taking in the breathtaking scenery. There's a short boulder scramble at the summit, which allows you to sit at the highest point of the park, overlooking the road leading up to Valley Center.

After soaking in the view, I descended the Stanley Peak Trail and rejoined the Sage Trail, continuing on what felt like a loop around the meadow. These next three miles are arguably the most beautiful of the entire Daley Ranch network. The trail takes you past the expansive meadow and leads you to the Middle Pond at the heart of the park. The sun reflecting off the water made for a stunning sight, but I didn’t linger long, eager to press on. Continuing along the Sage Trail, I eventually reached the Ranch House, nestled among trees and marked by woodpecker holes. This historic house remains somewhat mysterious, and it's here that you'll find the only restrooms at Daley Ranch. However, don’t count on these facilities for water, as the supply is often disconnected. With just over a mile left, I completed the loop by following the service road back to the parking lot, wrapping up the run.

Reflecting on Peak #11

Whether you're after a short hike to the peak for panoramic vistas or a longer, more immersive route to explore the park’s full beauty, Daley Ranch has something for everyone. The variety of trails and tranquil setting make it a perfect destination to escape the crowds and enjoy nature, especially on weekdays when the park is quieter. Be sure to take the time to explore the hidden gems of the park, as it's a place that rewards those who venture off the beaten path.

This marks peak #11 on my journey to summit all 100 peaks in San Diego County. Onwards!!
