Miles and Mountains:
My Path from Casual Runs to Conquering Peaks
Hi, I’m Ben Townsend. Running wasn’t always on my radar, but it became my go-to about six years ago, right after my twin boys were born. At first, it was just me pushing a double stroller around Twin Oaks Golf Course—my daily loop. Over time, those miles turned into something more, nudging me toward my first marathon at Carlsbad in 2018.
Then I found trail running, and, well, everything changed. Now, I’m the kind of person who can’t pass up a new hill to climb or a trail to explore. Since then, I’ve taken on two San Diego 100-milers, as well as a handful of other ultramarathons like the Cuyamaca 100k, Noble Canyon 50k, and PCT 50. I even tackled the SURF UltraSlam challenge in a single year.
Now, I’ve set myself another challenge: to summit all 100 peaks in San Diego, inspired by 100peaks.com. This blog will be my way to keep track of each climb, each mile, and see how the journey unfolds.
